The new mid-span supports consist of three components; new angled joists added to the benchwork (shown here) topped by an 1/8" thick by ~3/4” wide strip of engineering plastic (I forget what specific material this was) and a second piece of the same material on the underside of the drawer. The plastic will serve as a low-friction bearing.
