Wheel flanges contact the joint bars on the inside of the rail. In this case, I used a flexi file to remove some of the detail (sob).

On a later attempt at applying the joint bars to the inside of the rail, I thinned the bars before attaching them - from the back side. This is tedious, but leaves the detail intact.
