Since the Micro Engineering spikes are significantly bigger than the molded-on spike detail, I shortened and thinned the spike heads to make them a little more discrete.
The advantage to this approach is that rail and tie anchoring are done at the same time. The disadvantage is the tedium of the spike modifications.
